“Practical Project Management for Church Planting Endeavors”

CPS Process

The Concept Phase

A church planting endeavor begins with the Concept Phase. This phase is referred to in some church planting models as the visioning stage. More than the idea of a church in a single person’s mind, the Concept Phase calls for a team of committed Christians with trained and equipped leaders to engage in a Scripture-based discussion to conceptualize what the Mission of God (the Missio Dei) looks like and how it might take shape in a specific context. The chief objective of the Concept Phase is to capture a vision for establishing a new congregation by determining the who, why, how, and what of the new church. The Concept Phase calls for specific actions and outputs in order to develop and capture the vision for the potential church plant in a systematic manner. The point is not to stifle creative discussion but to ensure that the discussion is focused on its purpose and that it can be clearly communicated in future stages of the church plant.
